Why We Don’t Recommend Brewing Beans Right Off the Roaster
(Yes, Fresh Coffee Needs a Little Rest Too)
When you hear “fresh coffee,” your brain probably thinks: the fresher, the better—right?
We get it. It’s tempting to rip open that bag the moment it lands on your doorstep and brew a cup immediately. But here’s a little secret:
Your coffee actually needs a few days to chill out.
That’s right—letting your beans rest for a bit after roasting can make a huge difference in flavor.
Let us explain why a little patience = a better-tasting cup.
💨 It’s All About Degassing
Freshly roasted coffee beans release carbon dioxide (CO₂) in the days after roasting. This is called degassing, and it’s totally natural.
When beans are too fresh, they’re still releasing a lot of CO₂—which can interfere with the brewing process. The gas creates bubbles and uneven extraction, leading to:
Flat or sour flavors
Muted aromatics
A “tight” or underdeveloped taste
Think of it like trying to bake bread before the dough is ready: technically possible, but not great.
🗓️ So, How Long Should You Wait?
We recommend letting your beans rest for at least 3 to 5 days after roasting before you brew.
Here’s a general guide:
Espresso: Wait 5–7 days
Pour Over or Drip: 3–5 days is great
French Press or Cold Brew: Around 4–6 days works best
Your beans will peak in flavor somewhere between days 5 and 14, depending on the roast and how you store them.
🔒 Our Coffee Comes Rested
At Mommy Needs A Fix, we ship coffee shortly after roasting—not straight off the roaster. That means by the time your beans arrive, they’ve likely had just enough time to degas properly.
We also package every bag in a sealed plastic pouch with a one-way degassing valve, so the flavor stays locked in while CO₂ escapes. This helps extend freshness and ensure your coffee hits your mug tasting its best.
☕ Final Sip
In a world where we’re always rushing, it might feel wrong to say: “Wait to enjoy your coffee.”
But trust us—those few extra days make all the difference.
Letting your beans rest after roasting lets the flavors develop, the aromas mellow, and the cup you brew… shine.
Because you deserve coffee that’s not just fresh—but deliciously balanced, smooth, and totally worth the wait.
